Photos by Jim Langford

The incipient stages of my journey as a photographer focused on a variety of subjects. However, as time went on, I found myself drawn more and more to landscape photography.

My current collection of landscapes are, views that move me, lighting that excites me, and moments that inspire me. The diversity in America’s wondrous landscapes, from towering, majestic mountains in Colorado, to delicate, sometimes unnoticed California wildflowers, have instilled in me an unquenchable sense of adventure that I seek to capture in my collection.

Digital photography allows me to evoke senses similar to those present while I was in the field. These photos offer the viewer a glimpse into what was previously only my world at that moment.

When I'm in the field, I’m not focused on the technical aspects of an image; it’s more of a sense of space and emotion. It's only when I return to my photos that I’m able to get acquainted with my work and see what I've been up to.

The work I create has been shown in galleries, featured in magazines, graced the pages of calendars, and resides in private collections throughout the country. I’ve worked for interesting people and traveled to fascinating places, I have found that there’s nothing better than watching the rain fall across the high plains while waiting for the perfect light to define a distant mountain peak.

When I’m not working in the photography department at Saddleback College, you can find me off the beaten path capturing the natural beauty that surrounds us.
